600 Pubs, 1200 kegs, 100 Routes, 4 days. 100% As Promised
Specialist deliveries are our specialty, and our recently completed project is the perfect case study to work through why. Completed in September 2026, this job involved 1200 kegs of a big-name British lager transported to multiple addresses throughout the UK.
The Challenge
Shipping beer across thousands of miles already presents a logistics partner with a unique set of challenges.
The job? Deliver 1200 50ltr kegs of lager to 600 different addresses in various locations across the UK, within 4 days, from a temporary distribution facility.
It sounds simple enough, but a project of this scale required precision planning. To ensure a smooth operation, several factors needed to be considered. Route planning needs to occur long before the first drop begins, driver selection and preparation, pre-calls and live communication become the key to success, and a phased roll-out ensures success.
The Solution
Onit was on it. Keep reading to learn more about how we pulled this project together with our team of logistics experts and courier network.
Not only did route planning require some preparation - 100 courier routes needed to be mapped - but hundreds of pre-calls needed to be completed and 50+ drivers briefed.
Onit’s Approach
Having found a suitable staging location, mapping and optimising 600 addresses came next. We produced a series of 100 routes that enabled the beer kegs to be delivered efficiently and safely. Reflecting open/closed days and hours of operation, the next stage required real human interaction.
Around 900 pre-calls were made by our team. A clear and open communication approach meant that delivery windows were confirmed by receivers before the goods arrived - which limited the risk of surprises at the receiver’s doorstep and missed deliveries.
Onit’s phased approach to this project also contributed to the smart route planning and proactive communication windows. Based on information that came to light in the pre-calls, in flight changes, and the associated costs were avoided.
Delivery in numbers
Of the 600 addresses put forward to receive the beer, 100% had a completed or attempted delivery within the agreed time frame.
68 independent contractor couriers stepped up covering around 22,000 miles over the duration of the project (that's the equivalent to driving to Sydney and back).
A unique element to the project was the circular supply chain element, where 200 pallets were recycled and repurposed after the project’s completion.
Did we enjoy a drop of this delicious locally brewed English beer at the pub once the project was completed? Absolutely.
